How does the random Pokemon generator work?

Our generator uses the official open-source PokeAPI. Each time you click Generate, we pick a random Pokemon ID between 1 and 1025 (covering every Pokemon from Generation I to Generation IX) and fetch its full data — sprite, types, base stats, abilities, and cry. We never store any of your data, and the picks are completely random each time.

Is this random Pokemon generator free to use?

Yes, 100% free with no signup, no ads in your way, and no limits. You can generate as many Pokemon as you want, build unlimited teams, spin the type wheel as often as you like, and play the Guess That Pokemon game without any paywall. Pokemon Random is a fan-made tool supported by optional display ads.

Can I filter by generation or type?

Yes! The main generator lets you pick any single generation (Gen I through Gen IX). For more advanced filtering — multiple generations, multiple types, legendary-only, or exclude legendaries — use the Pokemon Randomizer tool further down the page. It supports every combination of filters you might want.

Can I generate a full Pokemon team of 6?

Absolutely. The Random Pokemon Team Builder (right below the main generator) rolls six unique Pokemon at once. You can also filter by generation. Click the X on any team member to remove them, then click again to roll a replacement.

How does the Guess That Pokemon game work?

A random Pokemon appears as a dark silhouette. You have 3 attempts to type its name. If you get stuck, you can request one hint (generation + type + first letter). If you guess correctly, your streak goes up. The game tracks your wins and total rounds played.

What is the Pokemon Type Wheel Spinner for?

It's a fun way to pick a random Pokemon type — useful for monotype challenges, type-themed draft leagues, or just for inspiration. After the wheel lands on a type, we show you four random Pokemon of that type so you can see what's available.

Do you include shiny Pokemon?

Yes. In the main generator, click the sparkle icon next to the Generate button to toggle between the normal and shiny artwork for the currently displayed Pokemon. Shiny forms use the official artwork from the PokeAPI sprites repository.

Can I hear the Pokemon's cry?

Yes — in the main generator, click the speaker icon to play the Pokemon's official cry (sound). We use the open-source PokeAPI/cries audio files. Make sure your device isn't muted.

Are all 1025 Pokemon included?

Yes, every Pokemon from the National Pokedex (IDs 1 through 1025) is available. That includes all of Generation I (Kanto), Generation II (Johto), Generation III (Hoenn), Generation IV (Sinnoh), Generation V (Unova), Generation VI (Kalos), Generation VII (Alola), Generation VIII (Galar), and Generation IX (Paldea).

Rayquaza is a member of the Weather Trio, along with Groudon and Kyogre. In Hoenn mythology, Rayquaza is the being that maintains balance between the land (Groudon) and the sea (Kyogre). When Groudon and Kyogre clash, Rayquaza descends from the ozone layer to calm them.

In Pokémon Emerald, Rayquaza plays a central role in the story. It intervenes in the conflict between Team Magma and Team Aqua, stopping the battle between Groudon and Kyogre. Rayquaza is revered by the people of Sky Pillar, who worship it as a deity of the sky.

Rayquaza's design is inspired by Chinese dragons and the concept of the sky deity. Its serpentine body, green coloring, and yellow markings evoke the image of a celestial being. The yellow rings on its body are said to glow when Rayquaza is using its full power.

Mega Rayquaza's Delta Stream ability creates the Strong Winds weather condition, which eliminates all Flying-type weaknesses. This means Rayquaza's 4x Ice weakness becomes a 2x weakness, and its Rock weakness becomes a 1x resistance.

Mega Rayquaza is so powerful that it was banned from the Uber tier and placed in its own tier called "Anything Goes." This is the only Pokémon to ever receive this distinction.

How to Catch Rayquaza

Rayquaza is available in several Pokémon games:

Generation 3 (Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald)

In Emerald, Rayquaza can be caught at Sky Pillar after the main story. In Ruby and Sapphire, it appears at the Sky Pillar after awakening Groudon/Kyogre. Rayquaza is at level 70.

Generation 6 (Omega Ruby, Alpha Sapphire)

Rayquaza is caught as part of the main story at Sky Pillar. After catching it, you can teach it Dragon Ascent to enable Mega Evolution. Rayquaza is at level 70.

Generation 7 (Ultra Sun, Ultra Moon)

Rayquaza can be caught at Ultra Space Wilds after becoming Champion. You need both Groudon and Kyogre in your party to encounter it.

Competitive Strategy

In competitive Pokémon, Rayquaza is a force to be reckoned with. Its versatility as a mixed attacker makes it difficult to counter, as opponents cannot predict whether it will use physical or special moves.

The most common strategy is to Mega Evolve Rayquaza immediately and use Dragon Ascent for massive damage. With Delta Stream active, Rayquaza's Flying typing becomes much more defensive, and its 4x Ice weakness is reduced to 2x.

However, Rayquaza's Ice weakness remains its biggest vulnerability. Be cautious of Ice Shard users like Mamoswine, who can deal significant damage even through Delta Stream. Pair Rayquaza with Fire or Steel types to handle Ice threats.
